MIGUEL A. I. HORTA E COSTA is Vice-Chairman of The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) since April 2010.

MIGUEL A. I. HORTA E COSTA was appointed in 2014 Chairman of the Board of Curators of the Luso-Brasilian Foundation.

He was Chairman of the Board of Directors, from 2009 until 2014. He was Vice-Chairman since 2003.

He has been Member of the Board of the D. Manuel II Foundation since 2013. The Chairman is HRH The Duke of Braganza.

He was Executive Vice Chairman of HAITONG BANK, S.A. since 7 September 2015 until June 2016.

He was Executive Vice Chairman of BESI, S.A. since 15 September 2006 until 7 September 2015.

In January 2012 he was appointed by the XIX Portuguese Government as Portuguese High-Commissioner for the Year of Portugal in Brazil and of Brazil in Portugal (2012/2013).

MIGUEL A. I. HORTA E COSTA, was a Director of the Boston Communications Group Inc. (BCGI) from September 2006 to October 2007.

MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was elected in October 2006 President and CEO of the International Confederation of Portuguese Business Men (CIEP). Since December 2015, CIEP was fully integrated in The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (CCIP).

MIGUEL A. I. HORTA E COSTA, was President and CEO of PORTUGAL TELECOM, SGPS, SA from 2002 until April 2006.

He was Executive Vice Chairman of the Group since August 1995 until becoming the CEO. From March 1998 until 2006, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was Member of the Board of TELEFONICA SA (España).

He was also a non-Executive Board Member of Banco Espírito Santo (BES) since the March 30, 2005 until March 31, 2008.

From March 1999 until May 2002, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was non-executive Board Member of Banco Espirito Santo de Investimento S.A.

From March 1998 to 2000, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was an Executive Board Member of SIC – SOCIEDADE INDEPENDENTE DE COMUNICAÇÃO, S.A.(the third TV Channel in Portugal).

From March 1994 until August 1995 he was Deputy Chairman of COMPANHIA PORTUGUESA RÁDIO MARCONI, SA.

From March, 1992 until August 1994 he was Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Espirito Santo Investment Bank (BANCO ESSI, S.A.).

From 1993 until 2007, he was a non-executive Board Member of PORTUGÁLIA, Companhia de Transportes Aéreos, S.A.

From December 3, 1990 until April 20, 1992, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was a Member of the Board of BANCO ESPIRITO SANTO E COMERCIAL DE LISBOA, S.A.

As a Representative of the same Bank he was Chairman of the Board of EUROGES FACTORING, S.A. and was Member of the Board and Chairman of SIBS – SOCIEDADE INTERBANCÁRIA DE SERVIÇOS, S.A. From November 1990 until March 1994 MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was Vice-Chairman of ASSOCIAÇÃO INDUSTRIAL PORTUGUESA – AIP.

In August, 1987, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was appointed SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN TRADE. As a Member of Prime Minister Cavaco Silva’s cabinet, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA was responsible for the development of Portuguese trade policy, and for its execution within the framework of the European Union (E.U.).

With the exception of the period he served as a Member of the Portuguese Government (August, 1987 until April, 1990) MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA made his professional career mainly in Telecommunications with an 8 months interruption in 1976 when he served as Assistant of the Secretary of State for Finance.

He joined the Portuguese Posts and Telecommunications Administration (PTT) in 1972 as an Economist, becoming Regional Director for the Lisbon Area in 1979.

In 1981 he was appointed General Director for Posts. In 1982 he left the Portuguese PTT and became Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of COMPANHIA PORTUGUESA RÁDIO MARCONI, SA – CPRM, the Portuguese International Telecommunications Carrier.

In 1984 he joined the Portuguese PTT as Deputy-Chairman until his last appointment as SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN TRADE. Carrying out his different functions MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA conducted the Portuguese Telecommunications representation and negotiations in several international organizations as ITU, UPU, CEPT, Intelsat and Eutelsat. In the beginning of 1987 he was elected Chairman of the PORTUGUESE ASSOCIATION FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS – APDC. MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA holds a degree in Economy by the University of Lisbon and a post-graduation degree by AESE (University of Navarra), as well as a specialization in Communications Management (1970) in the U.K.

On the 10th June, 2014, MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA received from HE The President of the Portuguese Republic the Grand Cross of the National Order of Infante D. Henrique.

In June 2014 he received the “Freedom” of the City of London by her Lord Mayor. On the 31st October 2013 he received the Amb. Dário Moreira de Castro Alves Award from the Luso-Brasilian Chamber of Commerce.

MIGUEL HORTA E COSTA has been decorated with the Grand Crosses of Merit of Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Sovereign Order of Malta and he is a Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit of France.

Baron Miguel Horta e Costa of Santa Comba Dão is a Knight Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion of the Sovereign and Military Order of Malta and was Ambassador of the Order in the Republic of Cabo Verde during 7 years (until June 2011).

He is also Knight Commander of the Royal Order of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Vila Viçosa (The dynastic Order of the Royal House of Braganza) and Knight Grand Cross of Justice of the Constantinian Order of St. George (The dynastic Order of the Royal House of Bourbon and the Two Sicilies).

Baron Miguel Horta e Costa is the delegate of the Constantinian Order of St. George in Portugal.

Baron Miguel Horta e Costa is a member of the Real Hermandad de Infanzones de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad de la Imperial Villa de Illescas (Spain).

He is the Honorary Consul of the Republic of El Salvador in Portugal.

He is also Commodore of the Yatch Club of Cascais (Clube Naval de Cascais) since 2005. From 2006 until 2015 he was Vice-Chairman of the Automobile Club of Portugal – ACP.

In 2014 he is appointed Vice-Chairman of the Alumni of the Business School of Lisbon University. Miguel Horta e Costa has two children and five grandchildren.
